A decade of us

Today marks our 10 year anniversary - and we’ve survived all that a decade could throw at us.

We actually decided the other week to sit and write down everything that’s happened to us in the last 10 years.

It end up being quite a long list, and it amazing to see how much we’ve done, been through and how much we still want to achieve as a couple.
We met in 2008, and married in the September 2010 and haven’t looked back.  In September 2013 our eldest was born, and his younger sibling arrived in October 2014.

Our relationship hasn’t always been plain sailing (there’s been lots of arguments) and I can remember us at a really low point, up to our eyes in debt, sorting through everything in our house that we could sell to pay for food, fuel to get to work and bills just to keep a roof over our head.

Hubby was made redundant on my due date with our youngest, we pulled together and he had a change of career.  He went from having a 9-5 office job to driving HGV lorries and being out on the road all week to support his family.

We’ve had our ups and downs with family and friends, we’ve fallen out with people, some we’ve now rekindled relationships with, and some we haven’t.

We both had car accidents within six weeks of each other, looked after each other after surgery and hubby was my rock when I had my hysterectomy.  We’ve dealt with the medical diagnosis’ I’ve had since meeting, and we’ve just adapted the way we do things to get the most out of life.

We’ve done two house renovations, and relocated across the country from Cambridgeshire to South West Wales in August 2016.   We converted part of our current house so that my parents could move in with us, and they joined us in Wales in November last year, and hubby was my rock when my dad has his stroke last year not long after they’d moved in.

There have been so many highs for us, we have our boys, hubby ran in the Olympic Park Stadium, has done 4 half marathons and was in the Territorial Army.

I’ve started this blog and now my own business, I’ve learnt to knit and sew on a sewing machine, and I’m a parent governor at the boys school.

We’re both trying to learn Welsh as both our boys are in a Welsh medium school.

There have been pets too, we had our dog Blitz, and two goldfish and we now have a budgie called Rubble.

We’ve explored the UK, and lost count of how many castles we’ve been to and steam trains we’ve been on.

Alan’s had a motorbike, piloted a helicopter and I had a once in a lifetime experience driving a hovercraft.

Long gone are our nights of sitting drinking a vodka, beer or wine - we’re now about the cups of tea and early(ish) nights.

I’m sure there’s lots of stuff that we’ve not managed to remember, and I can’t wait to see what else our future holds.
